Floyd Mayweather may be a retired boxer at this point, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t be stepping into the ring in some form in the near future. According to Reuters, the undefeated Mayweather has agreed to license his likeness for a virtual boxing simulation series that will pit boxers from across all eras against each other.
Mayweather will partner with fuboTV and virtual entertainment company FaceBank to host virtual fights between boxers that never fought or, in some cases, couldn’t have fought due to the differences in eras. The fights will take into account fighting style, punching velocity, and a myriad other factors to determine who would win in a fantasy showdown.
While no other fighters have been announced for the series yet, Mayweather will reportedly be working with FaceBank to “research and analyze photographic, filmed and mathematical representations of the boxer’s face and body to develop a comprehensive computer-generated ‘digital likeness’ of him.” It is likely that the company will do the same for any other boxers they sign on, something they claim will happen in the coming weeks.
For now, no timetable has been set for the virtual boxing event, though we do know that they will be streaming on fuboTV and pay-per-view formats.
