Alize Cornet was penalized for taking off her shirt on the court, an act male players do regularly.

Tennis player Alize Cornet exposed a double standard by taking off her shirt at the U.S. Open.

During a match against Johanna Larsson, the 28-year-old French player changed what she was wearing during an official heat break and came back on the court with her shirt on backward.

Realizing the mistake, she stepped into the shadows at the back of the court and removed her shirt so she could flip it. By doing that, Cornet’s red-and-black sports bra was briefly exposed.

After her shirt was back in place correctly, umpire Christian Rask issued her a code violation.

Tennis fans were quick to point out that if a male player had done the same thing – removed his shirt while on the court – a penalty would not have been issued under the rules of the WTA.

Cornet went on to lose the match on the tennis court to Larsson, though she may have won in the court of public sentiment.
