A former defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings is expected to file a $180 lawsuit against the most famous orthopedic surgeon in the United States.

Dr. James Andrews, who is more well-known than many of the players he treats, is named in a lawsuit which is expected to be filed by Sharrif Floyd in Florida.

The Andrews Institute for Orthopedic Surgery and others are also going to be named in the lawsuit, according to Floyd’s lawyer Brad Sohn.

According to the suit, Floyd was told by Andrews he would be having a minor arthroscopic knee surgery that would keep him out for a month. Instead, Andrews allegedly performed a far more significant procedure that resulted in the former 23rd pick in the 2013 NFL draft suffering permanent nerve and muscle damage in his right leg.

The damage allegedly caused by the Andrew Institute negligently administering a pain blocker. As a result of the damage, the Vikings placed Floyd on the non-football injury list and he was eventually released.

“We believe that if Sharrif had not been the victim of the medical negligence we allege, he would’ve been paid commensurate with some of the top players at his position, if not some of the top defensive players in football,” Sohn told Sports Illustrated.

The $180 million figure is based on Floyd’s potential future earnings in the NFL had he not been injured and cut.
