As first reported by USA Today, Louisiana State University reprimanded former head football coach Les Miles in 2013 following an investigation by law firm Taylor Porter into accusations that he engaged in inappropriate behavior toward female students.
The investigation was initiated by LSU following allegations that Miles, 67, texted female students, invited them to his condo, made them feel uncomfortable and, on at least one occasion, kissed a student and suggested they go to a hotel together. He was also accused of “unwanted touching,” according to The Advocate.
Miles, now the head coach at the University of Kansas, denied kissing the woman and maintained that he did nothing wrong and was just serving as a mentor to female students at the school.
Though the report did not find that Miles had sexual relationships with any of the women, it did determine that his behavior was inappropriate. Those findings led LSU to issue Miles a letter of reprimand, order him to stop hiring student employees as babysitters and banned him from being alone with female students. He was also made to attend eight sessions with an attorney and pay for them with his own money.
Miles’s attorney, Peter Ginsberg, said the release of the investigation, “should put an end to the baseless, inaccurate media reports that Coach Les Miles engaged in an inappropriate touching of an Athletic Department student volunteer eight years ago.”
“As the Report concludes, the allegation that coach Miles attempted to kiss the woman was supported by no evidence and warranted no discipline: ‘We do not believe under existing law and the terms of the contract there is cause to discipline and/or terminate’ Coach Miles. Coach Miles denied then, as he denies now, that any such conduct occurred,” Ginsberg said in a statement to ESPN.
Despite what Ginsberg had to say, Miles entered a settlement with a student who he was accused of harassing and hitting on while she was working as an intern at around the same time the investigation into his conduct was being carried out, sources confirmed to The Advocate.
Miles, who was married at the time of the investigation and still is, was fired four games into the 2016 season. Kansas is aware of the situation and is said to be awaiting further reports and information before making any decision about Miles and his future coaching at the school.
This, unfortunately, is just the latest example of rampant sexual misconduct at LSU.
