After following his big brother into the NFL, Eli Manning is taking Peyton’s path once again after his retirement from pro football.
The younger Manning, who walked away from the NFL prior to last season after spending 16 seasons with the New York Giants, is going to start hosting a new college football show on ESPN+ in the fall.
On Eli’s Places, the former Ole Miss quarterback will “tell college football’s story.”
His older brother, of course, already hosts a well-regarded series focused on the NFL dubbed Peyton’s Places.
With four Super Bowl wins and more than three decades of NFL experience between them, the former No. 1 overall picks should both do well on ESPN and may look to parlay their hosting duties into bigger roles down the line.
Peyton, 44, has already reportedly been offered a spot in the broadcast booth on Monday Night Football on numerous occasions but turned down the gig. If 40-year-old Eli does well with his new show, perhaps he’ll receive a similar offer — and decide not to follow in his big bro’s footsteps by taking the job.
The former Giant’s decision to join ESPN comes about 10 months after he said he needed a year off from football to plot his next move.
“I know one thing: I don’t want to be an NFL coach,” the younger Manning said in May. “I’ve seen what our coaches do and the hours they put in, and I enjoy being with my family and enjoy coaching some of their sports teams. Football is my love and passion. It is all I’ve known for the last 25 years and all I’ve been doing. I don’t think I can stray too far away from that. I’d like to hope to do something with the Giants, stay involved with them. I probably need a little break right now just because it’s so new. So I’m going to take a little time, enjoy some family time, but I assume I’ll be jumping back into football in some way. I don’t know if I want to do announcing … yet. Or go into that field.”
Apparently, now he knows.
