After missing the last four games — including an upset loss to the Eagles last Sunday — because of 11 broken ribs and a punctured lung, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will return to play this week, according to ESPN.

Brees is returning in the nick of time as the Saints are taking on superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in what some believe is a potential Super Bowl preview.

It will be the first time 41-year-old Brees faces 25-year-old Mahomes and will likely be the only meeting between the two unless the Saints and Chiefs do both reach the Super Bowl.

In addition to quarterback bragging rights, there is a lot on the line on Sunday as Kansas City (12-1) and New Orleans (10-3) are both competing for the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs in their respective conferences.

Without Brees in the lineup, the Saints went 3-1, but the New Orleans offense definitely gets an upgrade with him back in the lineup.

Expected to retire after this season (his 20th in the NFL) and move on to his analyst job at NBC, Brees ranks third in the league in Total QBR (80.1) with 18 touchdown passes, three interceptions, a league-leading 73.5 percent completion and 2,196 passing yards.
