President Donald Trump placed a congratulatory call to an NFL quarterback on Sunday following a big win and his name wasn’t Tom Brady.

Trump, who has claimed Brady as a friend and “grew angry” in April 2017 when the six-time Super Bowl winner said he planned to skip a White House visit with the Patriots, called Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins after he helped the Vikings earn a 28-10 over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

The president called Cousins to “briefly congratulate him and the Vikings on the win in New York,” a spokesperson for the team confirmed to WCCO.

Though Trump is planning a visit to Minnesota later this week for a Thursday night rally at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Cousins will not be attending. Cousins and Trump did discuss the rally, but it was not the focus of the call, according to WCCO.

The 31-year-old QB and the president have spoken at least once before as the two played golf together in 2017 while Cousins was still playing quarterback for Washington. At the time, Cousins told reporters he’d “enjoyed” their outing and characterized it as “unpolitical as possible.”

“I got an invite. I thought somebody was pranking me … ” Cousins told Sports Illustrated in 2017. “Look, if it had been any president — far left, far right, middle — I was gonna go. That’s the President of the United States. If any other former president would love to play golf, I’m open to it. Let me know.”

Cousins completed 22 of 27 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns in the win for the 3-2 Vikings. They take on the Eagles at home in Minnesota on Sunday.
