The dysfunction that permeates the New York Jets organization appears to have started to seep into the media personnel who cover the team.

In a somewhat bizarre story, The New York Daily News has removed longtime reporter Manish Mehta from the Jets beat, months after the team revoked his press credentials in a move that neither the newspaper nor the Pro Football Writers Association opposed.

A possible reason for the lack of pushback about the credential being pulled is a rumor floated by Craig Carton of WFAN that Mehta was “banished for stalking Jets general manager’s Joe Douglas son,” according to The New York Post.

Regardless of the reason for the ban, Mehta continued to cover the Jets. despite being banned from New York’s facility and having no access to the team.

So, why remove him now? ProFootballTalk theorizes that “rumblings of an upcoming Washington Post story regarding the situation may have prompted the publication to act preemptively.”

In addition to being pulled from the beat, Mehta, who was reasonably active on social media, has deactivated his Twitter account.

A particularly harsh critic of Jets head coach Adam Gase, Mehta was previously accused of running a Gase burner account on Twitter.
