Bears inside linebacker Danny Trevathan was officially ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s (Nov. 10) game versus the Lions, leaving in the first quarter after suffering a gruesome-looking elbow injury.
Trevathan fell on Lions quarterback Jeff Driskel — in for the injured Matthew Stafford — on a second-down play during Detroit’s second drive, and replays showed his left elbow bend back the wrong way. You can watch video of the injury below (warning: it’s graphic).

There’s no diagnosis yet for Trevathan, but obviously arms aren’t supposed to bend that way and the linebacker will likely miss a significant chunk of time. Sports medical analyst David J. Chao weighed in on Twitter, writing that based on the video, Trevathan likely suffered “a grotesque left elbow dislocation with a possible fracture” and could be out for the rest of the season. He was seen with his arm in a sling in the locker room after the game.
That would be a huge blow to the Bears, who already lost defensive tackle Akiem Hicks to a similar injury in Week 5. Hicks dislocated his elbow in London against the Raiders and was placed on injured reserve.

Nick Kwiatkoski replaced Trevathan in Sunday’s game and delivered an impressive performance. Despite the loss of Trevathan, the Bears managed to snap their four-game losing streak, defeating the Lions 20-13. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky threw 16-for-23 for 173 yards and three touchdowns.
