Baker Mayfield, Browns Knock off Jets to Notch First Win Since Christmas Eve 2016

The first overall pick replaced Tyrod Taylor and sparked the home team to a 21-17 victory.

Pigs are still grounded and hell hasn’t frozen over (yet), but the Cleveland Browns won their first game in 635 days on Thursday night.

Rallying from a 14-3 deficit after losing starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor to a concussion, No. 1 overall draft pick Baker Mayfield came in and completed 17-of-23 passes for 201 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Besides Mayfield, there was another good luck charm in the house for the Browns.

With Mayfield in the game, Cleveland’s offense had new life and even featured a play that saw the quarterback catch a pass for a two-point conversion, similar to the Eagles’ “Philly Special” play from the Super Bowl.

Trailing with moments left in the game, the Jets were marching down the field and completed a key fourth-down conversion. However, on the next play quarterback Sam Darnold, who was drafted two slots behind Mayfield, threw an interception, sealing the victory for the Browns.
