Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid got off to a head start on the most meme-able moment of the NFL season awards. Reid’s face shield constantly fogged up in Kansas City’s September 10 season opening game against the Houston Texans.

In several photos, it seemed as if Reid could not see out of the shield with the amount of fog that was covering it.

Heading into Week 2, Reid will still wear the face shield, but he now has a new solution. Chiefs equipment manager Allen Wright will use a defogging product that is commonly used by hockey players to defog their masks.

After Week 1, the NFL sent out a memo across the league, warning coaches to focus more on wearing a mask on the sideline at all times. Sean McVay and Jon Gruden were just a couple of coaches who noticeably had masks off at times in the first week of the season.

Understandably, masks and shields are very necessary during these times. They help prevent the possible spread of the coronavirus. Still, it also is somewhat uncomfortable to have a mask on. Gruden acknowledged that early last week.

“I’m sure they’re directing [the memo] at me,” Gruden said Monday. “I’ve got to do a better job of keeping my mask over my face. It was really hot. You have a headset on and it’s hard to communicate at times with that mask. I just got to do a better job with that mask.”

No player tested positive in Week 2 for coronavirus. The same result happened in the opening week, which is a good sign for the NFL.

The Chiefs play later today at 4:25 PM, and there will surely be a camera on the sidelines focused on the effectiveness of Reid’s defogging product.
