Do aliens exist? And if they do, what do they make of human civilization? Do they enjoy movies, music or sports? Do they have opinions of the athletic questions of the day? At least one prominent baseball player has very strong beliefs on this matter. According to José Canseco, aliens absolutely exist — and they do not like Alex Rodriguez.
Writing at NJ.com, James Kratch has more details on the onetime Bash Brother’s latest social media missive. Earlier this week, Canseco took to Twitter to report back on his conversation with a number of extraterrestrials. “[T]hey don’t even like arod,” Canseco wrote.
This looks to be an alternate spelling of the phrase “Klaatu barada nikto,” which has shown up a few times in beloved genre films. It first appeared in 1951’s The Day the Earth Stood Still, and resurfaced in the 2008 remake. It also occupied a prominent place in the plot of Sam Raimi’s 1993 Army of Darkness. There’s been much debate about what it actually means — Wikipedia has a few theories cataloged — but it’s a deep cut regardless.
It’s a strange dispatch from Canseco, to be sure. One can only hope that it inspires the guys from the Lonely Island to make a science fiction-inspired sequel to The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience. The mind boggles at the possibilities.
