While prepping to help lead New England’s scout team during the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, backup quarterback Brian Hoyer watched Peyton Manning’s Detail on ESPN+ because the episode centered around Rams quarterback Jared Goff.

After viewing the program, Hoyer realized the offense the Rams were running was the same one he had played in while playing under offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan with a young coach named Sean McVay coaching up the tight ends.

Then, to educate himself even further about Goff – who by this point is coached by McVay – the 33-year-old Hoyer watched the Amazon series “All or Nothing” which included a few episodes showing OTAs from McVay’s first few months with the team.

Hoyer realized the language, and therefore much of the offense, was still the same and that he knew its fatal flaw.

“Having played in that offense, they don’t have an answer for all-out pressure,” Hoyer told The MMQB’s Albert Breer. “Their answer is for the quarterback to make a play.”
That intel was translated to the defense during practice and ultimately led to New England defensive coordinator Brian Flores dialing up a blitz that forced Goff to throw a fourth-quarter pass up for grabs which was intercepted by Stephon Gilmore, basically sealing the win for the Patriots.
