Browns Confident Baker Mayfield Is No Johnny Manziel
Cleveland thinks the only two QBs have in common is they both won the Heisman.
Shortly after going No. 1 overall to the Browns in the NFL draft Baker Mayfield appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and did something that probably made Cleveland glad they picked him:
The ex-Oklahoma quarterback did not guarantee the Browns would win a game next season.
Making a guarantee on national TV would’ve been the type of thing one of his predecessors, Johnny Manziel, would’ve done, but the Browns are confident that Mayfield is no Manziel.
Despite his size, a 2017 arrest and some questionable on-field antics, Cleveland believes the only thing that Mayfield has in common with Manziel is that they both won the Heisman Trophy.
“In doing all of our research with Baker Mayfield, he has earned it, from high school, to college, he has earned it,” said Browns general manager John Dorsey. “I have no qualms whatsoever about him as a man or as a football player.”
Mayfield is the fifth quarterback taken in the first round by the Browns and first since Manziel.
