The Trump re-election campaign is selling merch. MAGA hats are so 2016; Trump straws are in.

According to Trump’s campaign manager, Brad Parscale, the red plastic straws have already raised nearly $500,000 in just one week, per the Guardian. Parscale himself is taking credit for the surprisingly lucrative stroke of fundraising genius, claiming he got the idea for the Trump-branded product after a negative encounter with a paper straw.

“I’m so over paper straws,” the 2020 campaign manager tweeted earlier this month along with a picture of a soggy paper straw crushed in a plastic lid.

According to Politico, an inspired Parscale emailed his team from a plane with the idea to “make straws great again” after his wife encouraged him to use the experience for more than just retweets. By the time he landed, the straws were reportedly already in production with an ad campaign in the works.

The Trump 2020 campaign said the straws have already earned more than $456,000 in sales since July 19, with the first batch reportedly selling out within hours.

A pack of 10, nine-inch straws laser engraved with Trump’s name will cost you a hefty $15, plus shipping and handling. As the Guardian pointed out, the straws aren’t the most economical option compared to the $9.99 you could pay for a 250-pack of plastic straws on Amazon, so if you’re looking to save a buck, you’ve come to the wrong place.
