A British woman survived for 10 hours after she fell off a Norwegian Star cruise ship and into the Adriatic, 60 miles off the coast of Croatia, on Saturday night.

Kay Longstaff, 46, says she feels “lucky to be alive,” according to Buzzfeed News. She was taken to a hospital in the town of Pula, Croatia, after being pulled from the water.

“I fell off the back of the Norwegian Star and I was in the water for about 10 hours,” Longstaff told reporters from local news channel HTR after being pulled out of the sea. “These wonderful guys rescued me.”

It is believed she fell off the Venice-bound ship shortly before midnight on Saturday, a disappearance which prompted a frantic search. She was found around 9:30 a.m. local time on Sunday by a Croatian Coast Guard’s patrol ship. Her remarkable survival is credited to high water temperatures, a good level of fitness and higher levels of body fat in women, reports Buzzfeed.
