Tom Hardy Stars as Spider-Man Anti-Hero in ‘Venom’ Teaser Trailer

The "Spider-Man" spinoff opens Oct. 5.

Tom Hardy got some demons. The first trailer for Venom dropped Thursday, giving fans the first look at him in action of the Marvel character. Hardy’s character originated in Spider-Man as a villain in the comics. He was a bitter journalist who bonded with an alien symbiote to become the entity known as Venom — an anti-hero who likes protecting the innocent, but hates Spider-Man. Tom Hardy is joined by Woody Harrelson, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate and Scott Haze, and the film is directed by Ruben Fleischer.

After Venom, Sony plans to launch a universe based on Spider-Man characters Silver Sable and Black Cat, slated for Feb. 8, 2019.Venom comes out Oct. 5.
