American Sniper veteran Bradley Cooper has four Oscar nominations to prove he can act. But the new trailer for A Star Is Born that dropped Wednesday shows he can sing and direct, too.

The remake of the 1954 and 1976 dramas about a struggling singer who finds her voice marks Cooper’s directorial debut. And the first-time filmmaker found the perfect voice for the female lead—pop superstar Lady Gaga.

The duo wrote original songs for the movie, which were performed live during the production. And judging by snippets in the two minute, 18 second trailer: It will be a fantastic sounding cinematic offering.

The official synopsis, according to ComingSoon.net, suggests a modern update: “In this new take on the tragic love story, Cooper plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers—and falls in love with—struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer…until Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.”

A Star Is Born opens in theaters on October 5.
