Actor Alessandro Nivola is currently in talks to play the lead in the upcoming Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark.

Nivola will likely play Dickey Moltisanti, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “a charismatic but violent made man who falls in love with his father’s much younger bride, a recent immigrant from Italy.”

Moltisanti is childless but takes it upon himself to mentor a young man named Tony Soprano, the son of a family friend. It’s set during the lethal Newark, New Jersey, riots of the 1960s that pegged African American and Italian American gangs against one another.

Other familiar faces to devotees of the HBO original series are expected to make appearances in the film.
