Save the Date: Release Set for “Joker” Movie Starring Joaquin Phoenix

Warner Bros. has set an Oct. 4, 2019 release date.

Chaos is coming. Warner Bros. has set a date for it Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix: Oct. 4, 2019. The studio made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the start of Comic-Con.

Joker will have a darker tone, Warner Bros. seemed to indicate. The film, directed by Todd Phillips, along with co-writer Scott Silver, is an “exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale,” according to Variety. 

The origin movie was greenlighted earlier this month. Variety first reported that Phoenix was in talks to play the Clown Prince of Crime and once his deal with finalized, the studio set a budget in the $55 million range. Filming will start in September.
