The Los Angeles Dodgers received an email from the manager of a Hampton Inn in Glendale, Arizona, that said a minor league player recently signed by the team had been accused of harassing and then sexually assaulting a hotel housekeeper. The manager wrote that the player had been making remarks and asking the housekeeper to go out with him for weeks, and that she had told him she was not interested.

“On Sunday things elevated where she was cleaning another room and he came up behind her and grabbed her,” the email said, according to The Daily Beast. “She pushed him back and he came back and grabbed her yet again. She told him that she wasn’t interested and that he needed to leave and he did.”

The team sent the player back to Latin America, reports The Daily Beast, and released him from the team a few months later. But there is no evidence that the Dodgers alerted Major League Baseball about the allegations, and just a few months after the Dodgers cut ties with him, the player is back in baseball. He was given a minor league contract for another MLB team.

The Daily Beast writes that the situation, in which an alleged perpetrator was punished by one team and allowed to play for another shortly thereafter, seems to highlight a gap in how MLB handles allegations of sexual assault across the league.
