Recent Spike in Prenuptial Agreements Brought on by Millennials

Finally, the one thing millennials aren’t “redefining” — the understanding that there’s a very good chance their marriages will end in divorce.

This younger generation of adults might be waiting longer to get married than their Baby Boomer parents, but they’re not ditching the sometimes sticky convention of having a prenuptial agreement written up before they say their “I do’s” HuffPost reported.

In fact, millennials have been linked to a recent uptick in the number of pre-marriage contracts being signed in the U.S., according to a recent study by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The report found that 62 percent of attorneys surveyed saw an increase in requests for prenuptial agreements — with 51 percent citing an increase in millennials asking for the protection.

This rise in prenuptial agreements also breaks the long-held stigma attached to them — that they’re only for the rich.
