When Andy Luck, NBC News chairman, fired Matt Lauer, he said that the complaint against the high-profile anchor was the first of its kind against him in 20 years. But many women from the company are saying that is not true. In 2012, Ann Curry, Lauer’s co-host at the time, was approached by a woman who told her that she was “sexually harassed physically” by Lauer. Curry said the woman was crying and was afraid of losing her job. The woman asked Curry not to reveal her name to anyone, and Curry obliged, but she did tell management and specified Lauer was a person to keep an eye on for how he treats women. Curry, who worked at NBC for 15 years, said there was “pervasive verbal sexual harassment at NBC.”

The Washington Post spoke to 35 current and former NBC staff members about the fact that Matt Lauer was known to pursue sexual relationships with more junior women. People told The Post that some of those relationships were consensual, while some were not. Twelve women said they were sexually harassed but did not report it.

Tom Brokaw has also been accused of misconduct. Linda Vester, a former NBC correspondent, told The Post that he made unwanted moves on her in the 1990s, including an attempt to kiss her. Brokaw has denied these claims.
