The Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, who has not been seen since July for months amid rumors of possible wrongdoing, has been fined for tax evasion, according to The Guardian. Fan and her companies were ordered to pay about $129 million in fines and unpaid taxes after authorities discovered she had failed to pay dues.

Fan is one of China’s most famous actresses and her career has spanned 20 years. The 36-year-old is best known worldwide for her role in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

If the fines and back taxes are “paid within the prescribed time limit,” Fan will not face criminal charges. On her official social media account, Fan released an apology.

“I sincerely apologize to everyone,” the statement read, according to The Guardian. “As a public person I should be in compliance with the law and be an example for society and the industry. In the face of economic benefits, I should not lose my restraint and forsake administrative procedures that lead to violations of the law.”
