Miles Teller Cast as Goose’s Son in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Sequel

Tom Cruise's co-pilot, nicknamed Goose, was killed in the original,1986 Navy action movie.

Actor Miles Teller has been chosen to play the son of Goose in Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 Tom Cruise classic. In the original movie, Goose was played by Anthony Edwards, and was the co-pilot to Cruise’s Maverick. Cruise tested with Teller, Glen Powell, and Nicholas Hoult for the role last week, reports Variety. The film will be directed by Joe Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first film. Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison will also be producing.

The sequel will be set in a world with drone technology and fifth generation fighters and will look at the era of dogfighting, reports Variety. Val Kilmer will be coming back as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Teller received a BAFTA nomination for his role in Whiplash, and is also known for his roles in Project X, That Awkward Moment, and War Dogs. He also starred in the drama films Thank You For Your Service and Only the Brave. Teller just wrapped up filming the Amazon series Too Old to Die Young.
