The singer believes the divide impedes on creativity and inclusivity in Hollywood.

After taking home her first-ever Oscar on Sunday for “Shallow,” a song she performed and co-wrote, Lady Gaga came up with a plan to improve the overall ceremony for the future.

And the first thing she’d do is scrap the gender-specific acting categories.

In a press conference after the ceremony, Gaga voiced her support for her LGBTQ+ fans, who will be attending Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras this week. “I wish to everyone that is going to that celebration to feel a joy inside of them,” she said, according to Dazed Digital.

“I also have a true dream in our future,” she added, “as we evolve as humanity, that these award shows will not be male and female, but that we include everyone.”

The designation of awards based on gender has been deemed outdated in recent years. In response, MTV’s Movie & TV Awards has done away with separate categories for men and women since 2017.

The president of MTV, Chris McCarthy, told CNN, “We have to constantly be pushing ourselves to not only respond to culture but lead it. If we’re going to do an award show that celebrates content, why would we not modernize what that looks like?”
