Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to three felony counts of rape and sexual assault in New York Supreme Court, Reuters reported. Weinstein, who was arraigned on two counts of rape and one first-degree criminal sex act charge, has been accused by more than 70 women of sexual misconduct that stretches back decades.
The 66-year-old’s defense attorney Benjamin Brafman told reporters: “Mr. Weinstein has denied these crimes. He has never engaged in non-consensual sex with anyone.
“As terrible a crime as rape is, it is equally reprehensible to be falsely accused of rape. In [Weinstein’s] view, he has been falsely accused of rape.”
If convicted of the charges, Reuters reports, Weinstein faces between five and 25 years in prison.
