Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has been forced into the role of America’s official wet blanket amid the country’s increasingly careless response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, would very much like you to stop having fun at bars.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said people should stop going to bars “right now” in a Senate hearing Tuesday, the New York Post reported.

“Congregation at a bar, inside, is bad news,” said Fauci. “We really got to stop that right now.”

The advisory against bar hopping comes as states including Texas and Florida have been forced to shut down bars a second time amid dramatic increases in new COVID-19 cases.

“I think we need to emphasize the responsibility that we have both as individuals and as part of a societal effort to end the epidemic that we all have to play a part in that,” said Fauci.

Once fully reopened, Texas is now among the country’s new virus epicenters, logging new cases at a rate of around 6,000 per day, while Florida’s cases have increased five-fold in two weeks. At this rate, Fauci said he would not be surprised to see the country reach 100,000 new cases each day.

“We are now having 40-plus thousand new cases a day,” he said. “I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around. And so I am very concerned … it could get very bad.”
