Every year the U.K. magazine The Spirits Business holds a competition to determine the best whiskey in the world, and one of this year’s winners is a $17 bottle sold at Aldi grocery stores. According to Maxim, the underdog gold medal winner in question is Aldi’s Highland Black 8-year-old blended scotch, but the Aldi accolades didn’t end there. Aldi also took home gold for its Glen Marnoch Islay Single Malt, which sells for $23.32 in US dollars.
As Aldi’s U.S. shoppers know, liquor is typically not available at the massive chain’s domestic locations. But with a couple of gold medals under its belt, Aldi might begin maneuvering its newly-famous scotches into U.S. stores. At least, American booze-lovers hope so.
