Last fall brought with it alarming news from one of the country’s most beloved actors. Jeff Bridges, known for his work in The Big Lebowski, Starman and The Last Picture Show — among many others — announced that he was being treated for lymphoma. This week, Bridges offered an encouraging update on his health, suggesting that he’s had an especially harrowing year.
The good news, as per a report from NBC News, is that Bridges’s cancer is in remission. The bad news? While being treated for it, he also came down with COVID-19. He’s since recovered from that as well — but based on his account of the last few months, it sounds like an especially trying time.
“Lots has gone down since my last installment,” Bridges wrote. “My cancer is in remission — the 9″ x 12″ mass has shrunk down to the size of a marble. My Covid is in the rear view mirror. Covid kicked my ass pretty good, but I’m double vaccinated & feeling much better now.”
Bridges added that he’s been working with a therapist to wean himself from oxygen assistance, which he had required until recently when moving around. “The sound it makes reminds me of Darth Vader,” he wrote, complete with illustration.
Bridges also noted that he’s “excited to get back to work on The Old Man,” the upcoming series in which he plays a retired assassin. His lymphoma diagnosis paused work on the show last year. It’s an encouraging dispatch all around during a year where good news has been in short supply.
