For many people, quarantine has been a time for home improvement projects. Maybe that’s been installing something new in a kitchen or bathroom; perhaps it’s involved trimming branches or cleaning gutters outside. But home improvement projects can inevitably lead to injuries incurred when improving things around the house. And those injuries can befall people in all walks of life — including critically acclaimed actors from the stage and screen.

All of which is prelude to say that Cate Blanchett — Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett — has apparently injured her head with a chainsaw. Apparently she’s fine, but it seems very likely that her story of an injury obtained around the house will be far more hardcore than most.

At The Guardian, Catherine Shoard has more information on Blanchett’s injury. The injury came up in a podcast interview last week:

The Oscar-winning actor, who relocated from Sydney to Crowborough last year, was asked how lockdown was going by former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard on her podcast last week.

“I’m fine,” said Blanchett. “I had a bit of a chainsaw accident yesterday, which sounds very, very exciting, but it wasn’t. Apart from the little nick to the head, I’m fine.”

Still, “a bit of a chainsaw accident” suggests that Blanchett may have the proverbial nerves of steel, as it’s unclear what kind of chainsaw accident would not inspire utterly and complete terror. Still, it’s good to hear that she’s fine. Given the acclaim she’s received for her work in the miniseries Mrs. America, it’s very possible we’ll see a lot of her next awards season.
