After the Cleveland Cavaliers finished 19-63 last season, you’d think it be hard for members of the team to find a silver lining, but as a new New York Times profile points out, the extended offseason was just that for Kevin Love, as it gave him time to travel the world — and of course, document it all on his Instagram.

Love and his girlfriend Kate Bock spent the summer in Phuket, Thailand; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; the Cascade Mountains in British Columbia; Portland, Oregon and Arizona’s Antelope Canyon. “It was an endless summer where we chased experiences,” he told the Times.

The NBA veteran cited Anthony Bourdain as an inspiration for his travels. “The great thing I learned from him was to be relentlessly curious and without fear of prejudice,” he said. Add Love’s recent interest in photography to that curiosity, and the ingredients for a perfect travel Instagram are all there.

“I think people have to walk that fine line of living in the moment and also capturing the moment as well,” he said. “That’s what I hoped to gain out of it. Just documenting the happy times.”

Love, who has been a mental health advocate and spoken openly about his own struggles — including penning an essay for The Players’ Tribune about a panic attack he suffered during a game — says above all else, the opportunity to get away and relax has been healing for him. “Having the summer to get away from it,” he said, “I know I’m better off having done so.”
