It might not come as a surprise that the star of Pineapple Express has a keen interest in helping you clear your criminal record, particularly when it comes to minor offenses.

Seth Rogen just released a PSA as part of an initiative for National Expungement Week (N.E.W.), the second in an annual week of events (Sept. 21-28) across the U.S. that offers legal help to many of the 77 million Americans with criminal records. “These convictions can restrict access to housing, employment, education, public assistance, and voting rights long after sentences have been served,” notes the N.E.W.’s official site.

Expungement means the clearing or sealing the record of a person’s prior arrest, criminal charges or conviction. “A large amount of these records are for minor offenses,” as Rogen notes in his PSA. “It doesn’t help them, and it doesn’t help this country.”

As Rolling Stone points out, N.E.W. is an initiative of Cage-Free Cannabis (which “repairs harms of the War on Drugs”) and sponsored by the cannabis company Houseplant, a project of Rogen and his filmmaking partner Evan Goldberg (along with Canopy Growth Corporation and other local sponsors).

The events for N.E.W. include legal help, voter registration, health screenings and employment workshops. More info on the week and how to participate can be found here.
