PBR Now Makes a 5% ABV Hard Coffee

There's no caffeine and it's "not a beer." So what the hell is it?

Hipster darling and frat-house favorite Pabst Brewing has debuted a new brew: Pabst Hard Coffee.

Touted as being “among the first of its kind in the industry,” the 5% ABV creation does contain caffeine. Rather, the boozy coffee is said to be a “java brew” that “balances a rich creamy blend with a roasted, whipped, vanilla flavor.”

If you’re not quite sure what that means, think spiked Yoo-hoo.

“Pabst Blue Ribbon has always been a brand that pushes boundaries and celebrates those who experiment and try new things,” PBR brand manager John Newhouse told Beer Street Journal. “Hard Coffee is an opportunity for us to pioneer a delicious and fun new drink, and give America something unique. We hope everyone loves it as much as we do.”

As of now, the new drink is only available in “limited test markets” in Pennsylvania, Maine, New Jersey, Florida, and Georgia, but you can use the product finder on the PBR website to see if it is coming to a location near you.

But if you’re just looking for a beer to pair with breakfast, please be aware that there are far better options available.
