Being home during the pandemic without his beloved New York Jets and Giants to distract him has led Game of Thrones scribe George R.R. Martin to do something he was struggled with in recent years: write.
Martin, who has yet to deliver the final two books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series to fantasy fans, shared an update about his progress on finishing The Winds of Winter on his blog and on Twitter.
“I have to confess, after half a year of pandemic, I am showing signs of cabin fever,” Martin wrote on social media. “If nothing else, the enforced isolation has helped me write. I am spending long hours every day on THE WINDS OF WINTER, and making steady progress.”
That post linked back to Martin’s blog, where he shared another detail about when he expects The Winds of Winter to be completed that relates to a trip he had planned being canceled.
“There is definitely a silver lining in that cloud,” he wrote. “The last thing I need right now is a long interruption that might cost me all the momentum I have built up. I can always visit Wellington next year, when I hope that both Covid-19 and THE WINDS OF WINTER will be done.”
Back in March, the 71-year-old author also shared that he was making headway finishing the book.
“Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day,” he wrote on his Not A Blog website. “Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms… but maybe not as grim as they may become here.”
