In news that may have Dickens purists screaming “bah humbug,” The Hollywood Reporter reports that Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds have signed on for a “musical reimagining” of A Christmas Carol.

The movie will be written and directed by Daddy’s Home filmmakers Sean Anders and John Morris and is currently being shopped around with “multiple studios bidding,” according to the publication. There’s currently no word on which characters from the holiday classic Ferrell and Reynolds are slated to play (but if we had to guess, Ferrell as Scrooge and Reynolds as Bob Cratchit seems like the most logical move).

A Christmas Carol, as you probably know, follows grumpy rich guy Ebenezer Scrooge as he’s visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve — the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Future. The Ferrell and Reynolds flick is just the latest in a long tradition of takes on the Dickens tale, including Bill Murray in Scrooged and the Muppets in 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol.

No word yet on when Ferrell and Reynolds’ musical adaptation of the story is scheduled to start shooting.
