Jimmy Kimmel is in the middle of his annual week of shows in Brooklyn, and last night (Oct. 23) he ventured outside the Brooklyn Academy of Music for some fresh air and adventure, canoeing on the Newtown Creek with trusty sidekick Guillermo and none other than Bill Murray.

The trio marveled at the scenic recycling barges and made sure to pack some tequila for the journey. They also learn that it takes just a tenth of an inch of water to overflow the sewers, and that if New Yorkers want to help, they can avoid flushing their toilets when it’s raining. (“I would like to be the face of that campaign,” Kimmel cracks.) Eventually they made their way to the East River for a nice view of the skyline. “A minute ago we were paddling amongst the recycling and the seepage, and now we’re out here at the city that never sleeps,” Murray said.

“It seemed like it was going to be the most disgusting place of the city, and it turned out to be kind of lovely,” Kimmel admitted, setting up Murray to get a little philosophical. “If you dive into the ugly, eventually it gets pretty,” the actor mused.

Kimmel’s week in Brooklyn continues tonight (Oct. 24) with guests Eddie Murphy and Maya Rudolph and legendary musical guest The Sugarhill Gang. Check out the full clip of his canoe ride with Murray below.
