Monica Lewinsky will reclaim her story and revisit the Clinton scandal that made her a national laughing stock back in the late ’90s by producing and starring in a new HBO Max documentary called 15 Minutes of Shame. The former White House intern is teaming up with Catfish‘s Max Joseph for the project.
“Monica Lewinsky is an anti-bullying activist with unparalleled authority, making her the perfect partner for this project,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said in a statement. “And Max’s strong advocacy for social justice and distinctive storytelling make him particularly well-suited to explore this complex modern phenomenon.”
15 Minutes of Shame will focus on Lewinsky as well as other well-known people who have been publicly shamed throughout the years. As HBO Max describes it, it will take “an in-depth look at the public shaming epidemic in our culture and explore our collective need to destroy one another” and “will explore the bullies, the bystanders, the media, psychologists, politicians and experts in between.”
In 2015, Lewinsky gave a TED Talk about her experience being vilified during the Clinton era called “The Price of Shame,” which was viewed over 16 million times. She also has led anti-bullying campaigns called Defy the Name and In Real Life.
There’s no word yet on when HBO Max is planning to release the documentary.
