John Mulaney Reportedly Playing Peacemaker Between Pete Davidson and “SNL”

The comedian reportedly tried to smooth things over at this week's afterparty

He’s joked about the time Louis C.K. tried to get him fired from Saturday Night Live, but Pete Davidson has also threatened to leave the show of his own volition, saying in a recent interview that he’s considering walking away from the sketch show because “They think [he’s] fucking dumb.”

“I have a lot of conversations with people because it’s a hard thing to do,” Davidson told Charlamagne Tha God when asked whether he’d ever consider leaving the show. “You don’t ever want to pull the trigger too early. Everybody’s always been like, ‘You’ll know when you know, and it’ll be all right.’ I personally think I should be done with that show because they make fun of me on it … When I’m not there, they’ll be like, ‘Huh huh huh, Pete’s a fucking jerk face.’ And you’re like, ‘Whose side are you on?’ I have a weird feeling in that building where I don’t know whose team they’re playing for, really — if I’m the joke or I’m in on the joke.”

That reportedly didn’t go over too well with his SNL castmates, and Page Six reports that “co-stars including Chris Redd, Aidy Bryant and Bowen Yang were still fuming” at the after-party for last week’s episode at L’Avenue at Saks. “What he said during his interviews has made a lot of folks at NBC upset, and they don’t want to work with him,” an anonymous source told the publication.

Despite his comments, Davidson — who is good friends with three-time host John Mulaney — still appeared in several sketches in Saturday’s episode, including the now-viral LaGuardia musical sketch. And while Davidson skipped the after-party this week, according to Page Six, Mulaney spent a chunk of the gathering trying to broker peace between Davidson and the rest of the cast, talking about “about how SNL can be very cutthroat sometimes” and noting that “while Pete is not doing himself any favors right now, the cast should take care of each other.”

Here’s hoping they can get it worked out; at the very least, we can all agree that buying sushi at the airport is asking for trouble.
