ART DIRECTOR (New York, NY)

InsideHook is looking for an Art Director to join our growing team. This is a full-time, salaried position with generous benefits.

Overview

The Art Director will work closely with the Editorial, Audience and Branded Content teams to establish and maintain InsideHook’s visual identity across all channels and touchpoints, including but not limited to: email newsletters, websites, branded content campaigns, social media, B2B and B2C marketing materials, and events and activations. They will also be responsible for day-to-day graphic design and photo editing of our primary content platforms.

The ideal candidate will be a creative, talented, accomplished designer, with a portfolio of projects as strong as their track record of success. They will be deeply collaborative, working cross-functionally with all of InsideHook’s business units, and their clients and partners. The ability to thrive under tight deadlines, and interpret feedback from internal and external partners is essential. The Art Director will be expected to juggle multiple assignments and deadlines, so impeccable time-management skills are a must.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design process of all editorial and branded features from ideation to execution, creating attractive, impactful layouts and visual features to complement our content, in partnership with our Director of Branded Content and Editor in Chief
  • Edit photography for our website and emails on a daily basis. Create illustrations on a regular basis. Oversee and commission original photography on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Design compelling materials for our sales, marketing and branded content teams to take out into the marketplace, including but not limited to brand decks, one-sheets and project mocks
  • Conceive and deliver UX wireframes for new projects such as websites, website redesigns, email templates, etc., partnering with key stakeholders including the Creative Director, Director of Branded Content, Editor in Chief, Lead Engineer and CEO
  • Establish and maintain a visual style guide, partnering with the branded content, content, sales and audience teams
  • Design all printed/physical collateral for all InsideHook events (signage, merch, etc.)
  • Attend both studio and remote shoots (photo or video), assisting the Creative Director in realizing a considered and cohesive visual identity
  • Work with the audience/social media  team on the production of high-touch imagery and graphics both templates and one-offs — for all platforms
  • Manage a design project calendar with respect to all deadlines
  • Provide constructive feedback throughout the editorial process

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience working in a fast-paced editorial, publishing or advertising environment
  • A proven track record of creating compelling visuals across various mediums and formats: web, email, print, social, infographics, illustrations, photography, etc.
  • Expert command of the entire Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom)
  • A passion for typography, brand identity and design theory, and the ability to translate that passion into a cohesive and consistent product
  • Working knowledge of — or at least some experience with — HTML and Content Management Systems (WordPress or similar)
  • Bonus points for experience with one or more of the following disciplines: illustration, photography, videography and UX design
  • Interest in men’s lifestyle topics, and knowledge of visual trends throughout the landscape
  • Ability to incorporate feedback from clients and creative team, as well as the conviction and tact to defend creative choices you feel strongly about

ASSOCIATE MANAGER OF BRANDED CONTENT

InsideHook is looking for an Associate Manager of Branded Content to join our rapidly growing team. The Associate Manager of Branded Content will be responsible for managing advertising campaigns for a variety of partners. The ideal candidate is organized, solution-oriented and poised to provide a best-in-class client experience. This individual will work closely with the Sales, Editorial, Social and Operations teams and report to the Director of Branded Content.

  1. Execute cross-platform advertising campaigns from start to finish for a range of leading marketers. Recent partners include Gucci, Neiman Marcus, Lexus, eBay and Crown Royal, to name a few.
  2. Create detailed execution timelines and assign internal and external deliverables and deadlines to meet target launch dates
  3. Spearhead daily client communications with multiple points of contact
  4. Facilitate the creation of co-branded content, which ranges from dedicated newsletters to brand advocacy articles to long-form features, in collaboration with Branded, Design and Editorial teams
  5. Monitor campaign performance and optimize, troubleshoot and resolve campaign and account issues in a timely, stress-free manner
  6. Deliver end-of-campaign recaps outlining successes and recommendations for future partnerships based on key learnings
  7. Contribute to the growth and success of InsideHook’s Branded and Sales teams through flawless client service
  8. Participate in productions, including branded video and photo shoots and sponsored events

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in digital account management
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite and Keynote required

This is an opportunity to work directly with our editors and executive team. The role will be fluid and fast-paced, ranging from nitty-gritty research, production, photo-editing and analytics work, to writing and reporting pieces and contributing to our long-term strategy. The ideal candidate is a great writer, team player and sleeve-roller-upper.

Responsibilities:

  • Pitch and write commerce stories
  • Collaborate with our editorial team and freelancers to produce, copy edit and fact check editorial content
  • Edit, cut and upload photos to our CMS
  • Contribute to editorial planning and strategy process and manage the commerce editorial calendar 
  • Fulfill various production needs for the commerce team, including QA and link creation 
  • Use our various affiliate networks and analytics platforms to identify opportunities and insights for the team

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have experience writing and reporting, preferably for a digital or print publication with an emphasis on lifestyle (travel, food and drink, style and grooming, health and fitness, pop culture, etc.)

Overview: 

The Manager of Audience Development is a critical part of the Audience Development team. The Manager is responsible for assisting to create and execute the growth strategy of InsideHook. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of digital audiences, InsideHook’s value proposition, differentiation and voice. They will have a deep understanding of what drives users to engage with content, how to convert readers into subscribers, and how our organization can best serve our audience using data. 

Responsibilities:

  Increase readership and engagement of InsideHook’s email newsletter editions and website via a multitude of paid and organic tools and tactics

  The Senior Manager will oversee the same functions for InsideHook Studios projects — current (Neil Patrick Harris’ Wondercade email), and future

  Partner with the Senior Director of Audience Development & Editor in Chief on content-focused acquisition and engagement strategies on owned-and-operated platforms, and partner channels. Explore alternative distribution to increase InsideHook’s reach and top-of-funnel opportunities.

  Optimize our relationships with existing syndication partners such as Apple News, SmartNews, MSN and Yahoo News. Seek additional such partnerships.

  Convert readers — on all platforms — into email subscribers; craft detailed, differentiated user journeys for unique audiences

  Oversee the collection and analysis of audience data via our analytics tools. Tools include: Parse.ly, Google Analytics, Sailthru, social media platforms and scheduler and survey results.

  Per the above, identify trends and deliver actionable insights to colleagues to help drive user acquisition, engagement and long-term retention. In short, deliver strategic planning and execution plans via data-driven insights.

  Partner with other members of the team to help develop and execute a 360-degree marketing strategy for all company products, brand activations/events and services; manage public relations efforts

  Distill audience insights in partnership with the Sales team, to be used for both internal strategic planning, forecasting and external client-facing presentations

  Track developing audience growth technologies and best practices, advocate internally for adoption

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of audience development or growth marketing experience at a digital media company or consumer-facing brand
  • Great editorial judgment, fluency with data and a passion for the media space
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving scaled, sustainable audience growth, particularly on email and the web; well-versed in the art and science of acquisition and engagement
  • Strong understanding of how to interpret paid media performance, subscriber retention, lifetime value, content value and remarketing efforts; fluency with Excel or Sheets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clear, confident client-facing correspondence

  • Lead a team of presale marketers and post-sale campaign managers, from day-to-day execution to long-term career development
  • Pre-Sale:
    • Participate in brainstorm and ideation processes, both in response to RFPs and for proactive outreach
    • Review all proposals, one-sheets and other client-facing materials before they’re submitted to ensure cohesion, polish and alignment with InsideHook’s content purview and voice. Review all media plans to ensure accuracy.
  • Post-Sale
    • Supervise a team of post-sale campaign managers as they execute a range of multi-platform programs, including co-branded editorial, custom video and photos, and live events
    • Support colleagues, as needed, in their management of sold campaigns. Partner on the creation and distribution of campaign materials (kick-off decks, execution timelines, creative briefs, mood boards) and the management of internal and external deliverables
    • Approve all creative before it’s shared with a client, ensuring that it aligns with the original concept, is in line with the InsideHook brand, and that the visual aesthetic is on-point 
  • Production
    • Spearhead production of custom video and photo assets: Guide the creation of creative briefs and mood boards, generate budgets; review execution and production timelines and; manage the post-production process
    • Collaborate with colleagues to vet talent, source crews and locations, and build out shoot day Run of Shows
    • Manage production on set, from talent, to the crew, to schedules
    • In partnership with the internal team, creative talent (directors, DPs, editors) and clients, ensure that video and photo assets achieve the overall target aesthetic and are of the highest quality
    • Apply the same level of management and detail to live events and activations
  • Strategy 
    • With the VP of Revenue, drive development, implementation and growth of core offerings and capabilities for InsideHook + IH Studios. We are always looking for big ideas and never-been-done-before executions.
    • Partner with Ad Ops and Audience to map out strategy and implementation for new ad products, and to monitor performance across units and platforms

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in branded content for a digital lifestyle publication, in pre-sale ideation and marketing, post-sale campaign execution or a combination of the two
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to successfully manage a team and inspire peers. A passion for collaborative, cross-functional work. 
  • Proven experience producing custom photo and video content
