Houston, We Have a Rocket Clock

Destination Moon will give you a brief history of time

March 27, 2017 9:00 am

Time flies … when it’s in the form of a Swiss-designed rocket-shaped clock.

A joint effort from watchmaker MB&F and clockbuilder L’Epée 1839, the torpedo-shaped Destination Moon features an eight-day movement made from palladium-plated brass and stainless steel.

The details are simply mesmerizing. And if you didn’t notice: thing look like an actual spaceship.

Drawing power from a winding crown in its base, the 16-inch-tall timepiece displays the time in white digits on rotating stainless steel discs and features 164 components and 17 jewels.

In addition to the piece’s functionality , L’Epée also wanted the clock to be fun, which is why it removed the rocket’s skin to show off its clockwork. You’ll also find attached a silver astronaut. His name is Neil.

“Some things are best left to the imagination and Destination Moon does just that,” according to the designers. “It delivers just enough engineering for a clock looking like a sci-fi rocket from the 1960s, but with plentiful empty space allowing our imaginations to fill in the details.”

Available in four different colors (black, green, blue or silver), the limited edition clock is $20k.

That’s one small clock for man, one giant price for mankind.
