Tesla has resurrected their Roadster to great fanfare, dazzling a crowd at the company’s official unveiling of the Tesla semi.

Granted, this Roadster isn’t the same sporty convertible as the original. The new version is a four-seater with a removable glass roof panel. Those details didn’t seem to matter too much to the crowd, who were more concerned with (and amazed by) how powerful and quiet the new Roadster is.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims that the new Roadster can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds, and 0 to 100 in only 4.2 seconds. Musk also claims that the Roadster’s quarter-mile time is 8.8 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 250 mph.

As for where all this power comes from, Musk didn’t offer many specifics. What we do know is that the car uses three electric motors for 7376 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. There’s likely a multispeed transmission, and the car will be all-wheel drive.

Musk did put over the new Roadster’s 200.0-kWh battery pack, capable of going 620 highway miles on one charge. “Driving a gasoline sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche,” Musk said.

While no deadlines for the upcoming Tesla Roadster have been guaranteed, current projections have it available for purchase in 2020.
