Jaguar’s New Baby Brother Is a Two-Seat Speed Demon From Mumbai

But will it put Indian automaking on the map?

When one thinks of the Jaguar Land Rover family, it’s models like the ultra-rare XKSS, classic Range Rover and dearly deceased Defender that come to mind.

However, since the iconic marque is owned by India-based Tata Motors, it’s time to give a new member of JLR’s extended family some consideration — the high-tech, turbocharged Racemo.

Produced by Tata’s TAMO sub brand, the Racemo is a two-seat sports coupe that relies on a mid-mounted engine and six-speed transmission to power it from 0-60 in under six seconds.

With a top speed of more than 125 MPH, the car rides on 17-inch front and 18-inch rear alloy wheels and it outfitted with all sorts of smart enhancements — three interior screens, a steering wheel covered in buttons, software to deliver cloud-connected performance tracking — enough so that TAMO calls the Racemo the first “phygital” car, according to New Atlas.

While that word (the unfortunate combination of physical and digital) is painful to say, its namesake is certainly easy to look at — which Tata Motors CEO Guenter Butschek hopes will help the RACEMO “break the ice with a radical new presence and pique the interest in the parent brand.”

Mission accomplished.
