So ... WTF is it?

Because the interwebs are crammed full of crazy things, and sometimes the purpose of those things is not immediately discernible, we present WTF Is It?

WTF is it?
The Sedric is a concept car that offers “level five autonomous driving” — which means no humans required.

What’s it do?
Designed to be operated or summoned with the touch of a button, smartphone app or vocal command, the all-electric car acts as a mobile personal assistant and can create trust with its owner by performing tasks like parking itself, collecting shopping orders or picking up guests.

Who makes it?
The Sedric was designed and developed by the Volkswagen Group and the company envisions the car will be the “father” of more mobility concepts. That’s to say, Sedric will have kids and grandkids.

Is it in any way useful?
Given that is has no steering wheel, pedals or other driving accoutrements, Sedric is only a good fit for those who believe self-driving cars are the future. If you’re in that camp and you’re into riding around in a luxury lounge that has a OLED windscreen equipped with augmented reality tech that can also serve as a communication and entertainment center, Sedric is for you.

It looks weird. Like a toaster and a catepillar had an angry baby. Why is that?
That’s a very specific image. But allow us to try to explain. VW says the “language of design” they used to create Sedric is “friendly and empathetic” and that its “muscular flanks and stable roof pillars” convey “robust character, safety and reliability.”

Anything else you think I should know?
Sedric has air-cleaning plants, charcoal air filters and birch leather upholstery, so it’ll smell nice.
