Please, Please Let This 7-Seat Jeep Become a Reality

So much room for activities!

After 76 years of near-domination of the SUV market, you’d think Jeep would have done it all by now.

And yet, there’s one stone they’ve left unturned: the XL.

But thanks to a new hybrid concept unveiled at the Shanghai auto show — coined the Yunta — that may be changing soon.

Meaning “cloud” in Chinese, the ride has room for the whole village (well, a village of seven, at least). Their biggest make yet, the Yunta still satisfies all the standard Jeep trappings: the seven-slot grille, the slim LED headlights, the overall rough-and-tumble aesthetic.

There are some dandy perks, though. Open the rear-hinge back door and you’ll find an impressive LCD screen stretching the entire width of the vehicle. It functions as a gauge cluster, console and info epicenter for whoever’s riding shotgun. The Yunta has eight more screens, as well, including one each strapped to all the passenger seats in the second and third row. No more “I want to watch Sesame Street and he wants to watch Moana.” Everyone gets what everyone wants, which means you get peace and quiet. Very nice.

Jeep hasn’t confirmed whether the Yunta will officially come into production. But in the meantime, we’ve got that massive Grand Wagoneer on the horizon.
