Last year, we opined that Jaguar Land Rover was “giving the people what they want and playing all the hits” when they cut the ribbon on their first Classic Works facility, a place for vintage models to be exhibited, sold, serviced and restored.
Our only gripe: that four-wheeled fantasy factory is across the pond in Coventry, UK. But soon, our E-Type envy will come to an end.
This week, Jaguar Land Rover Classic announced its first U.S. location is coming to Savannah, Georgia. The 75,000-square-foot classic-car complex will be the first of its kind outside of Europe, and is set to open next summer.
But what exactly happens at a Classic Works center? And who’s the target audience?
- Owners of classic Jaguars and Land Rovers: If you own one of their vehicles that’s been out of production for 10 or more years, you’ll be able to bring it to the 42-bay workshop for everything “from vehicle health-checks to full restorations.”
- People who want to be owners: A showroom will feature “Works Legends” for sale — aka top-of-the-line, pre-owned classic vehicles they’ve sourced and restored. We’re talking ‘51 XK120s, ‘68 E-Types (pictured above) and all sorts of Defenders. Or at least that’s what’s on offer in the British and German locations.
- Enthusiasts who know exactly what they want: Speaking of sourcing, one of the great services they offer is helping you find the Jaguar or Land Rover of your dreams. If you’ve got a specific year and model in mind, the Classic division has put its expertise at your disposal — and now that’ll include those who live in the States.
Our pipe dream? A D-Type, hands down.
