If a car hits 220 MPH in the forest and no one hears it ...

If the idea of a time-honored icon going all-electric makes your gas-loving blood run cold, we’ve got seven words that may change your mind:

Two hundred and twenty miles per hour.

That’s reportedly the top speed the Genovation Extreme Electric (GXE) sports car can reach, making it the fastest street legal electric car in the world.

Essentially a modified a C7 Grand Sport embellished with a pair of electric motors (front and back), a 60 kWh and either a seven-speed manual or automatic transmission, the GXE’s other specs (800 HP, 700 pound-feet of torque, 175-mile range) are also impressive. In fact, if we’re taking Maryland-based Genovation at their word (and we’d like to), the GXE actually has a faster 0-60 time (under three seconds) tha a traditional C7 (3.5 seconds).

“Our objective is offering a sustainable all-electric high-performance supercar with record-shattering speed capability, paired with ample and efficient range, by harnessing and optimizing the very best of available technologies,” Genovation CEO Andrew Saul said in a release.

If the idea of owning a sports car that won’t purr like a C7 but will beat one in a race appeals to you, Genovation will start delivery of the 75 GXEs it plans to produce at the end of 2019.

To get one, make sure you’ve got $750,000 handy and reserve yours today.
