Ferrari Says “Happy Birthday to Me” With 350 One-of-a-Kind Vehicles

This is the lineup you've been waiting for.

Despite technically being founded in 1939, Ferrari considers 1947 — the year they first released a badged car — their official inaugural year, making 2017 the powerhouse’s 70th birthday.

Car manufacturers tend to celebrate such occasions with special editions in small, numbered runs. But Ferrari is releasing a bona fide fleet. The Italian makers will churn out 350 70th-ann’y models: 70 vehicles for each of its top five current lines. The lineup will include bespoke editions of the F12 Berlinetta coupe, the 488 Spider, the 488 GTB, the California T convertible and the new versatile but awkward GTC4 Lusso shooting brake.

Expect the newcomers to draw their inspiration from historic Ferrari models, and “feature the highest technology and design capability of the company,” Ferrari marketing boss Enrico Galliera told Autocar. The squadron will be unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show this fall.

Not that it particularly matters.

Once again, the demand will certainly far outweigh the supply. Regardless of the “abundant” production run, like the upcoming LaFerrari release, the Ferrari team will be handpicking collectors and VIPs who will get the honor of purchasing the 70th Anniversary makes. “This is probably the most difficult part of what I do,” said Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne.

Understandable, but not the worst problem to have.
