This is your childhood three-wheeler turned up to 11

When the coolest car company on three wheels announced their intent to go all-electric by 2019, the first part of that plan was for the Morgan EV3 to make its debut sometime in 2017. Considering we’ve got 11 days left this year, we can safely say that plan is not coming to fruition.

That’s because the British marque’s powertrain supplier didn’t come through in time, forcing Morgan to pivot and instead go with a 21-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that sends power to a liquid-cooled electric motor supplied by Frazer-Nash, MotorAuthority reported. That combo will give the build a 120-mile range, 56 ponies and a top speed of around 100 MPH.

“We are delighted to announce our technical partnership with Frazer-Nash Energy Systems as we enter this exciting phase of EV3 production,” Morgan managing director Steve Morris said in a press release. “We have been working closely on optimizing the EV3’s architecture in every way to develop a car which will offer proven reliability range and cooling performance, combined with the pure driving experience that is expected of every hand-crafted Morgan.”

Now that the switch has been made, Morgan anticipates having their next-generation three-wheelers electric-sliding out of factories by the third quarter of 2018 at the latest.

Quick, what has three wheels and lends a man an air of steel, dignity and panache?

No, not a trick question.

But rather, the Morgan 1909 Edition EV3, a special edition of the British automaker’s new three-wheeled electric roadster.

Built in partnership with U.K. retail chain Selfridges, the lass will debut this September at Salon Privé, an annual car show in Oxfordshire, England. And if you are as enamored as we are, it would be best to have your feet on the ground, as only 19 will be made available for sale. The name is an homage to the birth year of both Morgan and Selfridges, and the latter will be releasing a special nine-item collection of driving-inspired goods to celebrate.

The kit — which features designers Alexander McQueen, Belstaff and Dents — will include a jacket, shoes, goggles, gloves and more.

According to Morgan Motor Co. Head of Design Jon Wells, “Great British design, technology and engineering is what the UK 1909 Edition EV3 is all about. We’re delighted to be able to show the car to the world’s press and publicly unveil at Salon Privé in September. Salon Privé combines style, luxury, lifestyle and cars in one event, just like the 1909 Edition EV3 does, too!”

A perfect match.

And a heavenly event for 19 lucky drivers.
