Apple just got knocked down a peg by Google’s parent company and now their favorite girl, Siri, may be facing some competition for top voice in the AI field.

A San Francisco-based startup, MOSAIC, is perfecting technology that will allow Tesla Model S owners to use Amazon Alexa to command their E-cars like they were KITT from Knight Rider.

In addition to ordering the Model S to awaken, unlock its doors or open its charging port or sunroof, MOSAIC’s software also will allow drivers to find out their vehicle’s location, battery level and anticipated driving range with just a few words.

The technology isn’t available for public consumption quite yet, but like a host of other Elon Musk-related projects, it is coming on fast.

Until we can talk to them, though, cars may be whispering to themselves.
